Biography

Marco Ng Chung Hon is currently a first-year Master of Arts in Performance student at the Royal Academy of Music, majoring in Violin Performance under the tutelage of Mr. Nicholas Miller. Last year Ng was awarded a full scholarship under the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (HKSES) to pursue his Master of Arts in Performance degree at the Royal Academy of Music.

 

Ng started learning the violin at the age of 6 with Mr. Tsai Loo and Dr. Calvin Lee, as well as the piano with Ms. Cheng Yau Wa. He graduated in CUHK with First Class Honours, completing the Bachelor of Arts in Music programme, where he was under the tutelage of Mr. James Cuddeford. While studying at CUHK, Ng participated in numerous masterclasses coached by Mr. Cho-liang Lin, Mr. Patrick Yim, Mr. Trey Lee and Ms. Alissa Lee of the Musicus Society and Tana Quartet. Ng attained the ATCL diploma in Violin in 2017.

Ng has won several awards in international music competitions. As a representative of Hong Kong, he won the first prize at the Inter-School International Performance Challenge 2016-JP held in Okinawa, Japan. In 2017, Ng performed and shared his experience in Japan at TVB's programme "Cultural Engine 4U". Recently, Ng received three first prizes at the 2022 UK International Music Competition, one silver prize at the Enterpe Music Awards and a third prize at the London Classical Music Competition 2022.

Ng also performs actively in the local music scene. Debuted as a concert soloist in secondary school in 2018, Ng recently worked with the CUHK Student Orchestra to perform Saint Saens' Violin Concerto No.3. In the same year, he also performed the Shostakovich Violin Concerto No.1 in his graduation concert. He had also led as Concertmaster in several orchestras, including the Alumni Orchestra and Choir in the CUHK Department of Music (55th Anniversary concert), 2022/23 Chung Chi Orchestra, 2023 CUHK Student Orchestra and the University of London Symphony Orchestra. He had also worked with Ponte Orchestra, Hong Kong Youth Choir and the Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra, and is a volunteer coach at the Shatin Philharmonic Orchestra. In his first year of studies, Ng has been a member of the Royal Academy of Music Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra, a member of the University of London Symphony Orchestra and has worked with the Willow Orchestra. As for chamber performances, he made his Macau debut in 2024 summer, collaborating with other musicians to present “Strings Rhapsodia”. While in Hong Kong, he organized his debut concert with his chamber ensemble “Canton Trio”.
